ATP-CP SYSTEM
The ATP-PC system is stored in all muscle cells throughout the body and consists of adenosine triphosphate and phosphocreatine(3).Creatine phosphate is your body's simplest, most immediate energy source that is found in the body .The ATP-CP energy system provides chemical energy through the breakdown of these stored high energy phosphates(5).This system gives energy when the body is working at maximal high intensity, for a short duration of exercise. ATP-CP system lasts up to 10-15 seconds before it causes the muscles to fatigue(3).Because this reaction happens very quickly, it occurs In the absence of oxygen and therefore is known as anaerobic.
The following graph, shows how the energy systems contribute to the manufacture of ATP over time when exercising.
This Video below shows more of a background on the anaerobic glycolysis systems.

ATP-CP System and Taekwondo
ATP -CP system lasts up to 3 to 15 seconds of an extreme burst of energy. Within a Taekwondo round the ATP-PC is the most important system as it is used when the athlete is attacking their opponent with high amounts of power. It is important that a Taekwondo athlete trains this effectively in order to meet the energy demands of a Taekwondo match. In the performance of taekwondo the atp cp system is reliable when fast movements at a maximal high intensity. Movements such as sparring when the duration is short is when the atp- cp will be burnt. Kicking, punching, Blocking and defending are examples of movements that will use the ATP-CP system.
How to improve performance
Training the ATP-PC Energy System-
Research shows that a best method to develop the ATP-CP energy system, are sessions involving repeats of up to 10-15 seconds of maximum intensity activities are required, with approximately two minutes rest between repeats to allow the system to resynthesis (reference).

- Sprinting as fast as you can for 50 – 100 metres with 2-3 minute recovery intervals before repeating.
- Punching a boxing bag as hard as you possibly can for 2 – 3 punches.
- Giving short extreme high intesnity bursts of energy for short sprints
